Australia Post is one of the first Australian organisations to unveil its app specifically designed for the new Microsoft Windows Phone 7.

"We're very proud to be one of the first apps showcased on the Windows Phone 7," said Brady Jacobsen, General Manager, Digital and Contact Centres.

"The Australia Post app demonstrates our commitment to our customers who want to interact with Australia Post services, electronically.

"Using this new application, our customers will be able to search for a postcode and find out the cost to send their mail item in Australia or overseas."

This is only the first phase of the Australia Post app for Windows Phone 7, with additional features including the ability to track domestic and international mail articles, locate the closest post office or street posting box and pay a variety of bills to be added in the coming weeks.

"As part of our new digital proposition, everything we deliver physically, we want to be able to deliver electronically," said Mr Jacobsen.

"In addition to our extensive retail network, our existing online services our contact centres, we identified a requirement to meet customer needs via smartphones.

"Working closely with Microsoft we've enhanced some of the existing capability available via our mobile website.

"This new app will increase customer convenience for the 50,000 customers that currently access the Auspost website from a smartphone device," said Mr Jacobsen.

Australia Post recently announced its Future Ready business renewal program, in response to the worldwide change in communications which has resulted in a decline in the letters business.

Under the Future Ready strategy a new business unit called eServices has been created that will be the engine room of Australia Post's long-term growth in digital communications and transactions. It marks the most significant change in the organisation's strategy as it acknowledges the critical place digital communications have in Australia Post's future.
