Russell Crowe to Stamp His Authority at the Box Office

Thursday, 06 May 2010

Academy Award-winning actor, Russell Crowe, will feature on Australian postage stamps in a collectable stamp pack celebrating his latest role, a remake of one of the most famous stories of all time - Robin Hood, directed by Ridley Scott. The Robin Hood stamp pack will be available from today.

Australia Post Philatelic Group Manager, Noel Leahy, said, "Russell Crowe is one of the most recognised faces around the world and his movies are a major contribution to the entertainment industry. The release of the film Robin Hood this month is of global interest, and we thought it would be very fitting to pay tribute to this great actor by producing the Robin Hood stamp pack in recognition of his talent and contribution to the film industry."

Crowe was one of four to appear in the 'Australian Legends of the Screen' stamp issue last year. The same stamp image will be used along with his character Robin Hood in the tab of the stamp.

Academy Award-winning actress, Cate Blanchett, will also appear in the film and will play Maid Marion. She too appeared on the Australia Post Legends of the Screen stamp issue last year. Crowe thought Blanchett would be perfect for the role of Maid Marion when they attended the launch of the Legends stamps in Sydney, together.

Russell Crowe said, "Her demeanor, everything about her… I was kicking myself. Why hadn't I thought of it before? Cate is a magnificent actress."

Robin Hood has been selected as the opening film of the 63rd Cannes Film Festival in France on 12 May. The Universal Pictures film then opens in Australia from 13 May.

The Robin Hood stamp pack will be available for purchase from 6 May at participating Australia Post retail outlets while stocks last. This special collectable will also be available from the online shop or via mail order on 1800 331 794. To find out more or to order your Robin Hood stamp pack, go to www.auspost.com.au/stamps
